Scripture Reading: Luke 5: 1-11

Focus

: “And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.” (Luke 5: 11)

In our Focal Scripture, following the net breaking miracle that filled the ships belonging to Peter, James and John, scriptures record that they later succeeded in bringing their ships to land, but they forsook all and followed Jesus. They had just received a major miracle, but that miracle was not going to get in the way of their following Jesus. What they received from Jesus was not enough to distract them from following Him.

Friend, as God makes you a major beneficiary of His goodness and power, be mindful not to allow whatever you have received to distract you from following Jesus. Don’t allow your miracles to become more important than the God who gave same to you. Don’t allow your successes to make you feel you need God less than you used to need Him. Don’t allow the goodnews that has come your way distract you from God.

Peter, James and John left the multitude of fishes to follow Jesus, and they eventually walked into greater realms that they would not have experienced if all they did was to focus on fishes alone. They became more than they were previously, when they looked to Jesus and followed Him rather than get stuck with their ships and fishes. There is more for you to attain and become, if only you can dare to focus on Jesus and follow Him.

Always remember that despite your achievements, you need Jesus more than ever before. Follow Jesus more than you ever did, despite whatever you have achieved. Keep your eyes stayed on Jesus, in spite of whatever the milestones are. Follow Jesus more closely than you ever did, so that you can be all that He has truly destined you to be. Follow more so that you can be more.

Don’t be counted amongst the misguided lot who believe that a ship full of fishes is enough reason to stay far from Jesus. No matter how filled your ships are, stay glued to Jesus.
