Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 9: 1-13

Focus

“And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:” (2 Kings 9: 1)

It is important to observe that it was not the job of sons of the prophets to anoint kings. The anointing of kings was reserved for Major Prophets in bible times. Even God Himself had instructed Elijah to anoint Jehu. Ordinarily, one needed to grow to the level of a Major Prophet in order to be given such national responsibility. One needed to attain certain levels before experiencing what it means to go and anoint a king.

Notice that in our Focal Scripture, Elisha called one of the sons of the prophets to go and anoint Jehu. Someone who was not qualified to anoint a king was sent to anoint a king. That young prophet was given an opportunity that was bigger than him. He got a chance to do something that was above his level; he got a chance to hit a target that his contemporaries could not hit; he got a chance to achieve something bigger than him.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you will be given opportunities that are bigger than you. You shall have resources that are bigger than you; you will be shown favours that are bigger than you; you will be taken into high places that are way too high for your standards; you will be given positions that are bigger than you; you will stumble into heights that no one expects you to attain; you will get a chance to be more than you planned.

That son of the prophet found himself carrying out an assignment that was not meant for people in training. He found himself in the midst of an assignment he was not qualified for. Get set: in this season, grace will take you into realms that you are not qualified for. Grace will position you in high places you have never dreamt of. Grace will usher you into results that are too big to be yours. Grace will be your advantage.

The same God that made it possible for that prophet in training to accomplish what a prophet in training should not accomplish, will cause you to accomplish more than you ever bargained for.
