Scripture Reading: Luke 5: 1-11

“And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5: 5)

Prior to our Focal Scripture, Jesus had told Peter to let down his nets for a draught; but when it was time for Peter to take action, he only let down his ‘net’. Jesus made a demand for nets to be let down, but Peter was only willing to let down one net. Peter had the chance to let down as many nets as he had and catch as many fishes as were available within the Lake of Gennesaret, but he only let down a net. He did less than he should do.

Friend, as God gives you opportunities to be more, don’t be less. As God brings you opportunities to do more, don’t do less. When you find an opportunity to express your potentials, don’t do less than you should. When you find yourself in an assignment that has the potential to make you relevant, don’t do less. Don’t reduce the scope of your efforts when the Lord would have you do more. Don’t do less instead of doing more.

Peter let down one net, and he caught enough fishes to fill two ships. He got a result that would have been the envy of many, but the fact remains that Jesus told him to let down nets but he only let down a net. Though his results were huge, he did less than Jesus expected from him. Don’t continue to do less than you should simply because your less looks big enough in the eyes of men. Stop minimizing your capacity simply because you are still managing to outshine others.

Peter may have filled two ships after doing less than Jesus wanted him to do. Just imagine what would have happened if he did as much as Jesus wanted him to do. You may never know how much greatness you have continued to miss because you preferred to do less instead of more. You may never know how big and great you would have become if only you were courageous enough to stretch yourself and stretch your efforts.

Dare to do more. See yourself through the eyes of the God who has given you the ability to do more. If ever you have a chance to do more, please don’t do less.

I will do more, in Jesus’ name!
