A Better Generation

27th June 2021

Scripture Reading: Mark 10: 46-52

Focus

“And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.” (Mark 10: 46)

Our Focal Scripture makes mention of Blind Bartimaeus, who was the son of Timaeus. The name Timaeus means Honour. So Bartimaeus was a son of Honour, but he was blind and a beggar. The situation of Timaeus was better than that of his son. The generation of Timaeus was better than that of his son Bartimaeus. It was a case of a former generation doing better than the present generation. It was a case of a better yesterday.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you will not have a better yesterday. Your best days shall not be in the past. Your best results shall not be spoken of in past tense. Your good news will not be told in past tense. You will not be counted amongst those that did not meet up with the levels of their past generation. You will not be counted amongst them whose yesterday is better than today. You will never have a better yesterday.

Hear me as I hear the Lord: your greatest exploits will not be in past tense; your greatest results will not be spoken of in past tense; your greatest heights will not be spoken of in past tense; your highest achievements will not be spoken of in past tense. It will not be said that your fathers did better than you. It will not be said that the glory of the past outweighs the glory of today and tomorrow. It will not be said that your light went off.

You belong to the generation that does better than their fathers. You belong to the generation that breaks old records and creates new ones. You belong to the generation whose paths shine brighter and brighter. You belong to the generation of those whose tomorrow is a better version of their today. You belong to the generation of those whose lives are simply getting better and better. You belong to a better generation.

Receive the mantle of a better life. Receive the grace to do better than your fathers.
