Be Excellent

21st May 2021

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 30: 1-20

Focus

“And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.” (1 Samuel 30: 7)

In our Focal Scripture, David summoned Abiathar. The name ‘Abiathar’ means ‘my father excels’ or ‘father of excellence’. So the man that David would turn to in his quest for solutions was a ‘father of excellence’. Excellence was the trademark of the person that would help David move forward from the point of his distress. There were several people around David, but the person he needed and called for was the ‘father of excellence’.

Friend, let excellence be your watchword. Dare to excel in everything you do; excel in your skills; excel in your abilities; excel in your assignments and responsibilities; excel in your trade; excel in your vocation; excel in whatever your hands find to do. Men who walk the path of excellence give results when others give excuses; men who are excellent understand that excellence is a debt they owe everyday.

Excellence is not an act; it is a lifestyle. Excellence is not what you do when everyone is watching; it is who you are even if no one is watching. Excellence is not your ability to impress people momentarily; it is your ability to remain relevant to people because you are constantly getting better than you were before. Excellence is when you do it so well that it announces you. Excellence is your ability to give results when others won’t.

Excellence sometimes is all about the details you pay attention to; excellence sometimes is all about the extra mile you are willing to go; excellence sometimes is when you refuse to end at an average level where most people are comfortable with; excellence is when you do it in a way that most people are unable to. Excellence is your passcode to relevance and influence.

Some kings may never seek for you until you begin to excel. Some people you may have been running after will start running after you if you become excellent. Dare to excel, and the gates of the nations will open to you.
