Expand Your Vision

Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 6: 1-7

Focus

“1. And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. 2. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.” (2 Kings 6: 1, 2)

In our Focal Scripture, the sons of the prophets told Elisha to behold that the place where they currently dwelt in was too small for them. They also told him about their proposal to go to Jordan and get wood for a bigger place. They saw the present and also saw the future. They had a vision for the present and a vision for the future. Their vision did not end with where they were; their vision extended to the future.

Friend, glean some wisdom: don’t allow your vision to begin and end with where you are now. There is more that can happen in the future; there are more achievements and opportunities that can happen in the future; there are more heights that you can attain in the future, and if you cannot see it now, you may not be able to get there in the future; there are more doors that can open in the future, and you need to prepare yourself now.

If all you can see is where you are, with no vision of where you are yet to get to, then you are simply preparing for a lifetime of stagnation and eventual retrogression. If all you do is limited to where you are now, with no effort to prepare yourself for where you are going to, you just might end up a mediocre that will expire with the passage of time. Your vision of today needs to be backed up with a vision for tomorrow.

Expand your vision and go beyond today to start thinking of tomorrow. Ask God to grant you a fresh vision for your tomorrow; ask God to show you what you ought to do in order to advance into your future; ask God to show you what you need to learn in order to position yourself better for tomorrow; ask God to give you eyes that can see beyond where you are; ask God to give you ears that hear what is relevant for the future.

When the chips are down, your vision for now may not be able to power your future if it remains on the same level. Grow and expand your vision. See more.
