Face Your Assignment

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 10: 1-12

Focus

“Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?” (1 Samuel 10: 1)

In our Focal Scripture, Samuel announced to Saul that God had anointed him to be captain over his inheritance. A captain is a military commander; the word captain connotes warfare and battles. So God selected Saul to be a warlord over the people of Israel. Notice that God did not call Saul a king; God referred to Saul as a captain. God viewed Saul from the binoculars of the assignment (of captain) that he was meant to fulfill.

Friend, men may see you as a king, but just maybe, like Saul, He selected you to be a captain over His inheritance. God raised you to fulfill an assignment that He determined by Himself. God raised you, not for the sake of enjoying a throne, but for the sake of fulfilling the assignment that made Him give you a throne in the first place. God raised you because there is an inheritance He wants to protect. God raised you to fulfill His agenda.

Saul was going to be recognized as king over Israel; the people were going to accord him a certain level of honour, but there was a man that God called him to be. No matter how men give you accolades, never forget who God called you to be. No matter how comfortable your throne is, never forget the assignment that brought you there. Never forget the stakes that heaven has in your rising. Never forget why God made you have a throne.

God could have told Saul that he had become a king, but God thought it wise to focus on speaking about the assignment of being a captain. No matter what happens, never lose sight of your assignment. Never lose sight of who you are meant to be in every situation. Never lose sight of the divine inheritance you ought to protect. Never lose sight of the burden that heaven has placed on you.

Face your assignment and forget the fact that it came with a throne. Be the captain that God called you to be, and don’t let your throne become a distraction.

Declaration

I focus on my assignment; my throne will not distract me, in Jesus’ name!
