Keep Knocking

4th November 2022

Scripture Reading: Acts 12: 1-19

Focus

“But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.” (Acts 12: 16)

On his way out of the prison, Peter didn’t need to knock on any door. He simply followed an angel and doors opened on their own accord. Peter came to the house where prayers were being made for him, and he needed to knock. He came to a transition point, he came to a place he needed to enter into, and he made the effort of knocking. Peter enjoyed the privilege of having God open gates for him, but he also knew how to knock.

Friend, whenever you arrive at those gates where you need to pass through, keep knocking until the gates open. There are doors that heaven will open for you, and those doors will open on their own accord; but there are doors that you will need to persistently knock on before they open. There are doors you will need to face with holy anger before they open. There are doors you will need to literally break open before they can open.

Peter could not break himself out of the prison, and God made that happen for him. The iron gate that led to the city opened on its own accord, because an angel accompanied him; but there was no need for an angel to open the door of the house where prayers were being made for Peter. God left Peter to knock on that door by himself. If you ever arrive at a gate that a man can open with some efforts, make that effort and open it.

What are you responsible for? Whatever you can do. What is God responsible for? Whatever you can’t do. Concern yourself with your path and leave the rest to Him. Concern yourself with the doors you can open and should open, and leave the iron gates you can’t open for God to open. Concern yourself with those results you already have capacity to achieve. Concern yourself with those areas where heaven has empowered you.

Don’t be counted amongst a lazy generation that will never knock on any door but will sit back whilst waiting for God to open every door. Keep pushing, keep pressing, and you will prevail.

Declaration

I will keep pushing until my doors open; I will not abandon doors that I can open, in Jesus’ name!
