Unexpected Thrones

Late But Favoured

21st November 2022

Scripture Reading: Luke 7: 11-17

Focus

“Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.” (Genesis 37: 3)

Our Focal Scripture reveals that Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Joseph was not necessarily finer or more handsome or more stylish or more intelligent than any of Jacob’s sons. The only reason why he was preferred was because he was born to Jacob when he was already old. Joseph came into Jacob’s life pretty late, and his lateness caused him to be loved.

Jacob had ten sons before the birth of Joseph; so there were enough people who came ahead of him; there were many people who ought to be preferred above him; there were a lot of people who even deserved to be considered before him; there were people who should have been given the right to the level of love that Jacob showered on Joseph, but Joseph was still preferred. The lateness of Joseph caused him to be preferred.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: your lateness will cause you to be favoured. You will be favoured above people ahead of you; you will be considered for high favours that have not been extended to people ahead of you; you may indeed be late in the scheme of things, but God will cause you to be considered first amongst your rivals; time may not be on your side considering some expectations, but favour will speak for you.

It may have seemed unjust to make Joseph the favourite when there were ten sons ahead of him. It may have even seemed inappropriate that the least was considered first, but such was the favour on Joseph. Hear me as I hear the Lord: you will receive favours and privileges that people will consider unjust given that there are people ahead of you. You will be preferred even when it is not exactly right for you to be preferred.

You may be running late as 2022 gradually draws to a close; but the God who specializes in favouring the disadvantaged will cause you to be favoured. Something greater is coming. You’re not late; you are a candidate for a better portion. The very best is coming to you.

Declaration

I may be late, but I shall be favoured more than those ahead of me, I will be preferred, in Jesus’ name!
