Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 9: 1-13

Focus

“And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.” (2 Kings 9: 6)

Our Focal Scripture captures the moment when the son of the prophets poured oil on the head of Jehu, signaling his anointing as the king of Israel. Jehu was a captain prior to that time. He was a man of war, versed in the art of battles. He was a man who faced all manner of battles, including some that he must have won and some that he must have lost. Jehu moved from being captain to being king. He moved from captainship to kingship.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you are moving from captainship to kingship. The pains you have had to endure will cause you to be elevated. The battles you have had to fight will qualify you for high places. The hurdles that life has kept on your pathway will usher you into uncommon greatness that will work for your good. The challenges you have conquered will attract a crown of glory to you, in this life, and hereafter.

Some people may have thought that Jehu was leading a dangerous life, but it was for the good of God’s people, and in the end, he was also rewarded. He denied himself of the comfort that civilians were permitted to indulge in, and his reward was kingship, despite not being a descendant of David. Hear me as I hear the Lord: the battles you have fought in this life will cause greatness and royalty to be included in your lineage.

Jehu appeared to have come back from a battle and was chatting with the other captains when he was called up and anointed as king. He did his bit when there were battles to fight, and royalty beckoned to him. Hear me as I hear the Lord: after this battle, you will be promoted. After your current battles, God will cause you to be lifted above your imaginations. After you conquer the challenges on your way, you will rise to new heights.

Get set: every battle will bring promotion. Every battle will lead to lifting.
