Mercy Prevails

Scripture Reading: John 5: 1-11

Focus

“The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.” (John 5: 7)

When Jesus asked the man at the pool of Bethesda if he wished to be healed, the man began a needless speech about how he had no man to take him into the pool each time an angel stirred the waters. He also told the tale of how he came close to entering, only for someone else to get in there before him. That man could have simply said a YES to Jesus’ question, but he merely rehearsed the tale of his failure to get healed.

Notice that although that man missed the essence of Jesus’ question, Jesus still healed him. Jesus overlooked the mistake in his response and healed him. Jesus overlooked what could have disqualified him from his miracle and caused him to testify. Jesus looked beyond what the man didn’t do right and delivered his miracle instantly. That man could have missed his miracle if it were about his response, but mercy prevailed.

Friend, hear God’s word of grace to you: in seasons when you have not done well enough to deserve the miracles you seek, mercy will prevail and deliver your results. In seasons when you may not get everything right, mercy will speak louder than judgement and deliver your miracles. In seasons when you could likely miss your next level because of what you didn’t do right, the mercies of God will speak on your behalf.

Hear me as I hear the Lord: what you have not done right will not work against you. The words you didn’t speak right will not work against you. The efforts that were not enough will not work against you. The times you stepped out of line will not work against you. The mistakes you made in the past will not count against you in your next level. The errors of the past will not stop you. God Himself will cause your errors to be overlooked.

Stop wearing your mistakes like a garment. Stop holding on to whatever you did not do right in time past. The same mercies that spoke for that man at the pool speaks on your behalf. Mercy prevails over judgement.

Declaration
