In our Focal Scripture, Deborah announced to Barak, that the battle he was about to fight will not be for his honour, because God was set to sell Sisera into the hands of a woman. In subsequent verses of scripture, Barak did all the fighting with the men of war, he conquered the entire army of Jabin, but Sisera escaped. Sisera would eventually be murdered by Jael. So someone who was not in the battle field took the glory of battle.
Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you may not have been part of the battle, but God will cause the glory of victory to be bestowed on you. God will cause the glory of other men’s efforts to be bestowed on you. Others will labour but you will enjoy the increase. Others will make efforts but God will cause you to reap from the efforts they have made. Others will put in their time and resources, and God will cause you to be a beneficiary.
Get set: God will cause you to walk through doors you didn’t open. God will cause you to earn from money you did not make by yourself. God will cause you to dwell in houses you didn’t build. God will cause your walls to be built by the kings of this world. God will cause you to benefit from victories you did not fight for. God will cause you to receive benefits you did not bargain for. God will cause you to reap from other men’s labour.
Jael who later killed Sisera, was a woman, she wasn’t a warrior, she didn’t qualify to defeat a captain, but God used her to kill Sisera. What her strength was not enough to accomplish, grace filled in for her. If everything you were to ever get in life were to come by your labour, where is the place of grace? If all your resources were to come by your own sweat, where is the place of the God who owns a thousand cattle on a thousand hills?
The same God who in Bible times caused a woman to receive the glory of a battle she did not fight, will cause you to receive the glory of battles you didn’t fight.
