Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when people pressed towards Jesus, to hear the word of God. These people came to Jesus, not necessarily for miracles, but because they had an appetite for the word of God. They were desperate to hear what God had to say. They had a deep craving for the word of the Lord. They left their locations to go and locate Jesus, because they wanted to hear the word of the Lord.
Friend, in all your getting, get an appetite for the word of the Lord. Grow your appetite for the word of God. Grow your affinity for the word of God. Grow your passion for the word of God. Grow your depth in the word of God. Grow your dependence on the word of God. Develop a deeper yearning for the word of God. Be intentional as those people were, in seeking to hear the word of the Lord. Press towards the word.
Notice that Peter was busy washing his nets as others pressed towards Jesus to hear the word of the Lord. Peter allowed his personal goals to take precedence over the hearing of the word of the Lord. Don’t allow the chase for your personal goals to stop you from chasing after the words from God. Don’t allow the affairs of this life to take the place of God’s word in your life. Don’t allow daily activities to rob you of a time with the word.
God created the entire universe with words; so when you chase after the word of the Lord, you are simply chasing after the same thing that has the capacity to create. When you chase after God’s word, you are simply chasing after the same thing that God uses to make new things happen. A life without the word is a life without enough of the life of God. A life without enough of God’s word is simply gasping for air.
Don’t make the mistake of losing appetite for the word of the Lord. Press for more of the word. Feast on the word. Live on the word.
