The Cutting Edge

21st February 2020

Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 6: 1-7

Focus

“But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.” (2 Kings 6: 5)

When the axe head of one of the sons of the prophets fell into the water, he cried out to Elisha and let him know that the axe head was borrowed. That son of the prophet was not about to pretend that he was still effective with an axe that had no head. In bible times, axe heads usually had wooden handles; so when that axe head fell off, the implication was that wood would come against wood, leading to zero results.

That son of the prophet realized that there was no need pretending when he had lost his cutting edge; he realized that there was no need acting like one who was still effective but who had effectively become ineffective; he realized that there was no need to deceive himself or people around him; he realized that it mattered more to have a cutting edge than to make people feel he had a cutting edge when he actually had none.

Friend, no matter what happens, never lose your cutting edge. Never lose the ability in you that births the results. Never lose your prayer fire; never lose your consecration; never come to a point where your competence will go missing; never allow yourself to come to a point where you will merely pretend to still be effective when indeed you have lost your effectiveness; don’t be content to push on without a cutting edge.

The son of the prophet did not lose both the axe and the axe head; he only lost the axe head, but he realized that he had lost what was most important. He realized that he had lost what mattered most. When you lose your cutting edge, you actually have lost what matters most; when you lose your cutting edge, you actually have lost what makes you effective, and whatever is left may not fetch you results.

Cry out to God if you have lost your cutting edge, and He will help you like Elisha helped that son of the prophet. Again, no matter what happens, keep your cutting edge intact.

Declaration

I will not lose my cutting edge, in Jesus’ name!
