Scripture Reading: 1 SAMUEL 17: 1-53

Focus

“And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;” (1 Samuel 17: 17)

In our Focal Scripture, Jesse sent David with food for his brethren who were in the battlefield with Saul. These brethren were yet to win the battle, but David took food to them in the battlefield. They were yet to hit the target they sought to hit, but David took food to them. They were soldiers who were yet to accomplish what they went to the battlefield to accomplish, but David went to meet them with food in order to strengthen them.

Friend, if you have the oil of God on your head, and if you are surrounded by men who are fighting battles, do well to take ‘food’ to them in the battlefield. Strengthen the warriors that are connected to you. Strengthen those around you who are fighting battles. Strengthen those around you who are still in the journey of achieving what they set out to achieve. Strengthen those around you whose capacity is yet to yield results.

The battle that David’s brothers went to fight was a battle for the entire nation. They needed to win. Their loss was of no use to David. David would have been a partaker in their loss assuming they lost, and he took food to them whilst in the battlefield. Sometimes, those who are fighting battles around you are not just fighting for themselves; sometimes, they are fighting for you as well. If they lose, it would also be your loss.

Notice that it was when David took food to his brethren who were warriors, that he saw Goliath and eventually defeated him. The opportunity for his relevance came as he took food to strengthen his weak brethren in the battlefield. A man who strengthens weak warriors is a man who will find opportunities for relevance. A man who feeds weak warriors will find opportunity to manifest strength.

Don’t be counted amongst the generation that celebrates the weakness of soldiers. Feed your weak soldiers. Feed your wounded soldiers. Strengthen those around you who are fighting battles.
