Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 9: 1-13

Focus

“And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.” (2 Kings 9: 10)

In our Focal Scripture, as soon as the trainee prophet was done with the business of anointing Jehu, he opened the door and fled. He didn’t just walk away; he ran away. Notice that Elisha had mandated that trainee prophet to gird up his loins. To gird up one’s loins in bible times, meant to tuck in one’s long flowing garment into a girdle worn around the waist region. The idea was to stop the long flowing garment from impeding movement.

So for that trainee prophet to race down to Ramothgilead, he needed to tuck in his garments. For him to be able to make it in time to anoint Jehu, he needed to tuck in his garments. That long flowing garment was meant to make the trainee prophet look nice and endearing, but he tucked it in for the sake of his assignment. He tucked in what should have made him more comfortable in order to excel in his assignment.

Friend, it’s high time you tucked in your ‘flowing garments’. Tuck in your comfort. Tuck in your pride. Tuck in your past achievements. Tuck in your excuses. Tuck in your distractions. Tuck in that desire that is getting in the way of your achievements and assignments. Tuck in your penchant for delays. Tuck in your needless culture of hate. Tuck in your laziness. Tuck in your endless sleep. Tuck in your resentment for great men. Just tuck in.

The trainee prophet would not have been able to run and meet the deadline of anointing Jehu with his flowing garments if he didn’t tuck them in. You may not hit the targets that heaven would have you hit if you fail to tuck in your garments. If he dared to run while wearing his flowing garments, maybe he would have had a fall. You may not run your race successfully, and you may even have a destiny fall, if your garment is not tucked in.

It doesn’t matter how much you enjoy your flowing garments. Tuck them in if you want to attain true and lasting greatness.

Declaration

Memory Verse

“As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.” (Hebrews 12: 1 GNB)
