Be Battle Ready

23rd October 2020

Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 9: 1-13

Focus

“And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:” (2 Kings 9: 1)

Our Focal Scripture reveals the moment when Elisha told one of the sons of the prophets to gird up his loins. In the Oriental Culture, men often wore long garments, and also wore a girdle around the waist. That girdle served as a point where a sword could be securely placed. So part of girding up one’s loins was to put one’s sword in order. So Elisha was impliedly counseling that son of the prophets to get a sword and be battle ready.

Friend, as you go through your journey in life, be battle ready. Always be ready to cut short the plans of the enemy. Always be ready to engage the Angelic host on your side and dislodge every encampment of the enemy around you. Always be ready to crush the gates of the enemy. Always be ready to insist that the gates of hell will not prevail. Always be ready to tear down the strongholds of the enemy and raise the banner of Jesus high.

That son of the prophet was not going into a battle, he was simply going to anoint a new king, but he was asked to gird up his loins, and impliedly get ready for battle. What you are about to do might seem really simple and non combative, but get ready for war all the same. Get ready to confront the enemy even if your assignment seems rather simple. Get ready to tear down satanic opposition even if they are yet to show up.

If you have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, then you belong to that generation that will ensure that the gates of hell shall not prevail. If Jesus has redeemed you, then you belong to that group that will ensure that every device of the enemy is scuttled and scattered. Jesus did not redeem you so that you can be taken unawares by the evil hands of the enemy. Jesus did not redeem you so that you can be empty handed in the face of war.

Treat your journey here on earth as a battle. It’s either you tear down the gates of the enemy, or the enemy will make mincemeat of your destiny. Choose to be prepared for battle always. Choose to be battle ready.
