Break Away

Scripture Reading: Ruth 1: 1-17

Focus

“3. And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4. And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.” (Ruth 1: 3-4)

Our Focal Scripture reveals that Elimelech died in the land of Moab. His sons went ahead to take wives of the daughters of Moab. Elimelech made the mistake of going into a country that God forbade His people from staying in, and after his death, rather than retrace their steps, his sons remained there and even took wives from there. Those sons continued in the error of their father. They continued in the error of their past generation.

Friend, you may have been born into a pattern of error, but do well not to continue in the errors you were born into. Do well not to leave the same legacy of sin and error that was left for you; do well to put an end to the journey of negativity your family may have begun; be the one to halt the descent of your family into the same negative patterns that past generations left behind. Don’t live in the errors and mistakes you were born into.

It’s okay to have been ushered into errors and wrong lifestyles pretty early in life, but there is no law that says you must continue therein. Break away from the errors of your fathers; break away from the negative lifestyle and attitudes your family is known for; break away from the negative generational patterns your family is known for; break away from it if it does not please God; break away even if you are the only one that will do so.

Elimelech was the head of his home, and in addition to the error of going to Moab, his sons married Moabitesses. They did worse than their father did. The male members of his family chose the path of error. I pray specially for you: may the male members of your family not embrace the path of error; may the male members of your family not become examples of negativity. The male members of your family will not go down the drains.

The grace and wisdom to break away from the negative patterns of the past are in you; break away from the negative patterns.

NO REDUCTION

In our Focal Scripture, the prodigal son judged himself unworthy of remaining a son to his father. He wanted to move from sonship to servanthood.
