CHECK YOUR TRIBE

26th April 2024

Scripture Reading: ACTS 3: 1-11

Focus

“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” (Acts 3: 6)

It is instructive to observe that when Peter made the proclamation of healing to the lame man at the Beautiful gate, there was no dissent from John. They were both in agreement with the power of God. They were both in agreement with the change of season for that lame man. They were both in agreement with the miracle they expected. It was a tribe of men who both had a shared belief. It was a tribe of men who believed alike.

Friend, be intentional about your tribe. Be intentional about those you tag along with. Be intentional about those you share your ideas with. Be intentional about those in your inner circle. Be intentional about those you spend quality time with. Be intentional about those whose words shape your thoughts and actions. Be intentional about those who rub off on you without your knowing it. Be deliberate in choosing your tribe.

Peter may have been the one speaking, but he had with him someone who would affirm all he said. He had with him someone who could at least say amen to his prayers. He had with him someone whose faith could be added to his own faith. How to know that they should be in your tribe is that they share in your consecration, they share in your faith, they believe what you believe, they treasure what you treasure, they value what you value, they follow the principles you follow, etc.

If all they do is to deflate your faith and cause you to believe in yourself less than you should, then they should not be in your tribe. If all they do is to question your faith and courage, instead of adding to same, they shouldn’t be in your tribe. If they make you fear God less, and if they make you reduce the status of your consecration and walk with God, they shouldn’t be in your tribe. Your tribe ought to say go when you ought to go.

Don’t be counted amongst fire bearers who chose to surround themselves with fire extinguishers. Choose your tribe intentionally.
