When Herod needed to get information about Jesus, he spoke to the scribes and chief priests, who referred him to what was written by the prophets. Information about Jesus’ identity was being sought, and the answers were found in scriptures. Herod was not referred to rumours or mere speculations; he was not referred to the tales of haters; he was referred to God’s word. Jesus was defined and described by God’s word.
Friend, when the chips are down, you are not defined by what the world says about you, you are not defined by what haters say about you, your identity is not a function of what men heard about you, your destiny is not defined by the rumours that may have been spread about you, you are not a product of the speculations of men about you, you are not defined by the analysis of mere mortals; you are defined by God’s word.
You are who God’s word says you are; you are a product of what God has already said about you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made because God’s word says so; you are the head and not the tail because that is what God’s word says about you; you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus; you are God’s workmanship, specially carved and molded for His glory; you are seated with Christ, far above principalities and powers.
Don’t let any man define you on the basis of what you have or do not have; don’t let anyone reduce you simply because of what they heard about you; don’t allow your life to be defined by the negative rumours that haters may have spread against you; don’t derive the picture of your life from the negative speculations of men who have no idea of how God crafted your destiny. Don’t take your identity from your environment.
If Jesus was described by what God’s word said about Him, then you should be described and have your identity described by what God says about you.
