Scripture Reading: 1 KINGS 1: 32-49

Focus

“And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.” (1 Kings 1: 32)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of how David summoned three men prior to the enthronement of Solomon as king. One of the men that David summoned was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. The other men only had their names mentioned, but when it got to the turn of Benaiah, his father’s name was included. Benaiah became an introduction for his generation. He caused his family’s name to be heard in high places.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you are about to become that person that will cause the name of your family to be heard in high places. Because of the exploits that will come through you, your family’s name will be put in the news for the right reasons. You are the one that will advertise the name of your generation. You are the one that will put your family in the limelight. You are the one that will cause good news to be heard from your family.

Benaiah got so outstanding that even his father’s name had to be mentioned. He was so great in his role that his family’s name was advertised. I pray for you: may it always be said that you did so well that your family was remembered. May it always be said that you were so excellent in exploits, that people had no option but to notice your family. May your greatness advertise your generation. May your greatness cause names to be heard.

Instructively, be intentional to live in a way that will advertise you and your family positively. Be intentional about your excellence. Be intentionally exceptional at your duty post. Be intentional about the impressions you leave in the market place. Be intentional about your participation in results that will make positive news. Be intentional about your output. Be aware that what you do impacts on the identity of your generation.

Look inwards. If your activities were to be an advert for your generation, what sort of advert would it be? Would people be glad to hear the name of your family? Or would they curse your family’s name because of your results?

Declaration

I am an advert for my generation, in Jesus’ name!
