Divinely Sweetened

6th January 2020

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 10: 1-7

Focus

“Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?” (1 Samuel 10: 1)

In our Focal Scripture, Samuel took a vial of oil and poured same on the head of Saul to anoint him as captain over Israel. The oil that was used in Bible times had several ingredients. One of such ingredients is the Cassia which is a thick sweetener. So Saul was anointed with a sweetener; what came upon him was an anointing that sweetens; spice was added to his life; taste was added to him; his life was sweetened.

Friend, as 2020 begins, hear the word of the Lord: you shall be sweetened endlessly. God will sweeten your life so much that you will forget the pains and bitter tears that 2019 fed you with; God will make you smile again; God will make you experience new things that will cause your mouth to be filled with laughter; God will cause your path to shine so bright that you will become the talk of your city; heaven is about to put sweetness in you.

You may have become accustomed to pain and shame; your life may have become tasteless; people around you may have begun to associate you with the misfortunes you faced in time past; your bitter tears may have swallowed your identity; but as surely as the Lord lives, you will smile again this year. As surely as the Lord lives, in your places of pain and shame, beauty shall arise. God will replace your bitterness with beauty.

Get set: sweetness is about to invade your life. Sweetness is about to erupt in every facet of your life. Sweetness is about to become your second name. God is causing sweet things to happen all around you. As people come closer to you this year, they will feel the sweetness that God has released into you; as people encounter you, they shall encounter the sweetness of God through you.

The days of pains and bitter tears are over. Henceforth, your life shall radiate the sweetness of God.

Memory Verse

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61: 3)
