Don’t Forget The Word

9th April 2020

Scripture Reading: Mark 16: 1-20

Focus

“And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.” (Mark 16: 1)

The three women in our Focal Scripture bought spices in order to go and anoint the body of Jesus. These same women were among the followers of Jesus whom He had told previously that He would rise from the grave after three days. There was a word from the Lord concerning resurrection, but they seemed to forget, and they bought spices to preserve and manage His dead body. They forgot the word, and they slipped into error.

Friend, when you forget God’s word, you just might slip into error; when you forget what God has said to you, God’s word will not work for you; when you lose sight of the word of the Lord, you just might make movements in the direction that leads to nowhere; when you forget the word of the Lord, you just might be getting in the way of the manifestation of God’s word for your life; when you forget the word, you are in error.

Jesus told a parable of seeds that fell by the wayside, and were taken by birds. Those seeds stood for the word of the Lord, which were taken away and did not bear fruit because they did not gain roots in the ground. If all you do is to hear the word of the Lord, or read the word of the Lord, without having it take root in you, it may not yield results. If you fail to retain and enforce or internalize the word, you might miss the benefits.

Make a commitment to take God’s word more seriously. Make a commitment to commit God’s word to your memory. Make a commitment to water the word you have heard or read. Make a commitment to use the word instead of living it dormant. Speak the word; meditate on the word; remind yourself of what God’s word says; feed your spirit man with God’s word; use the word against every challenge or crisis you face.

Remember, God hastens His word to perform it. God’s word is quick and powerful. God’s word is like a hammer that breaks rocks into pieces. No matter what happens, never forget the word of the Lord.

Memory Verse

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1: 8)
