Drop Your Fears

18th November 2019

Scripture Reading: Matthew 14: 22-33

Focus

“And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.” (Matthew 14: 26)

When Jesus’ disciples saw Him walking on the sea in the fourth watch of the night, they were troubled, they thought it was a spirit, and they were afraid. Divine intervention was coming their way, but fear wouldn’t let them recognize it. Things were about to change for good, but they were still enveloped in fear. People who had been with Jesus and who should have been more conversant with the power of God were simply too afraid.

Friend, it’s okay to be afraid, but never let your fears take the driver’s seat of your life. Never let fear occupy the seat that should have been reserved for faith; don’t allow your fears to blur your vision; don’t allow fear to stop you from accessing what God has made available to you; don’t allow fear to keep you at the same spot longer than necessary; don’t allow fear to cripple your destiny; don’t let your fears stop you.

These same disciples had been given power in Matthew 10; so they even had the power to speak to the wind and calm the waves, but they never did. Fear will cast a cover over the same things that God has already given you; fear will limit you and cause your potentials and potentialities to be dormant; fear will cause you to think that you can’t when you truly can; fear will cause you to give up when you should press on.

Instead of letting your fears grow, let your faith grow. Build up your faith by embracing more of God’s word. Let God’s word be stronger in you than your fears. Listen to what God’s word is saying, and not what your situation is saying; let the voice of your faith grow until it drowns the voice of your fears; even if your faith is not enough, hold on to it and let go of your fears.

If you have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, then you are a child of the Most High, and fear should never have a front seat in your life.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4: 18)
