Prior to our Focal Scripture, Elijah demanded for food from the widow of Zarephath, but she gave an excuse about how she wanted to make something for herself and her son, after which they would eat, and die. That woman did not sound like someone who had been commanded by God to feed Elijah. She acted and spoke like one who didn’t hear what God said to her. Elijah, in our Focal Scripture, insisted and enforced what God said.
Friend, there may be times when circumstances would appear to resist the word of the Lord concerning you. There may be times when realities would directly and vehemently oppose the word of the Lord concerning you. No matter the response of your environment, enforce the word of the Lord concerning you. Insist on having what God says you should have. Command the people whom God has already commanded, to help you.
The woman of Zarephath was almost pretending not to have heard what the Lord said to her, and Elijah made sure to remind her. Sometimes, when your circumstances feign ignorance of the word of the Lord concerning you, remind your circumstances of what God said, and command your circumstances to obey the word of the Lord. Don’t allow anyone to carry on against what God already proclaimed concerning you.
Your woman of Zarephath may want to delay in fulfilling God’s mandate for your life; don’t let that happen. Don’t let anyone get away with delaying the word of the Lord concerning you. Don’t let anyone truncate the word of the Lord concerning you. Don’t let anyone become a roadblock or an unwilling vessel in the fulfillment of God’s will and plan for your life. If they fail to comply, command them in the place of prayer.
Remember, Elijah insisted, and the same woman who earlier gave excuses showed up with the results he needed. Don’t accept excuses. Enforce the word of the Lord and it will be fulfilled.
