Face Your Battles

Fight Your Battles

Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 9: 1-13

Focus

“And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.” (2 Kings 9: 5)

Our Focal Scripture sheds light on Jehu, the captain and soon to be anointed, king. Being a captain meant that Jehu was a soldier; he was versed in the art of warfare; he fought battles; he may have won some battles and lost some. Jehu may have had bruises from some battles. He may not have necessarily enjoyed his battles, but he had a nation to defend, and he kept at his battles. Jehu was that captain that refused to give up.

Friend, you may not literally be a captain, but by virtue of the battles you have fought, permit me to call you a captain. Like Jehu, refuse to give up on your battles. Don’t chicken out because the battles are coming with more intensity than you bargained for. Keep fighting the fight of faith. Keep fighting against the wiles of the enemy through your prayers. Keep resisting the enemy. Refuse to concede your territory to the enemy.

You may have fought battles that made you cry. People around you may be envying you without knowing the battles you have fought and the pain you have had to go through. You may have been injured in the midst of the battles of life, and God says, keep standing in your watchtower; keep pressing into the realms that are yet to manifest, no matter the opposition you face. Keep fighting the battles that come your way.

Remember, there was a generation that needed to be defended, and Jehu continued to fight his battles despite the inconvenience. It may not be convenient for you to keep fighting your battles, but just remember that there are generations counting on you to fight their battles on their behalf. Remember that there are people who are not as strong as you are, and who might become victims of the enemy if you fail to arise and make war.

If Jesus has redeemed you, then you are called to a life of warfare. Fight your battles, advance the course of the kingdom, defend your generation, and no matter how hard it gets, don’t give up.

Memory Verse

“And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Genesis 26: 22)
