Greater Light

26th May 2019

Scripture Reading: Mark 5: 21-34

Focus

“And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.” (Mark 5: 23)

The man who came to Jesus on account of his sick and dying daughter was named Jairus. Jairus’ daughter was at the point of death. The name Jairus means ‘light’. So light was his name but darkness was in his house. Light was his personality but darkness was his reality. Jesus was the light and in Him there was no darkness; so Jairus (Light) went to meet Jesus (Light of the World). ‘Light’ went to encounter a ‘Greater Light’.

In the creation story, God made the greater light to rule by day and the lesser light to rule by night. The lesser light ruled at a time when darkness was prevalent. The lesser light ruled at night when there were no other great lights shining; the lesser light could only shine when there was not enough light; the lesser light could only shine when darkness provided the contrast for it to shine; the lesser light could only shine in the dark.

Friend, may God position you as a greater light that rules by day; may God cause your light to shine even in the midst of those who are shining; may God cause your light to shine even in the midst of rivals; may God cause your light to shine more than the light of those around you; may the Lord cause your light to shine and overwhelm the forces of darkness around you; may your light shine and leave no room for darkness to appear.

Jairus was Light, a lesser light, and darkness had no challenge entering his home and targeting his daughter. When you are the lesser light, you make life easy for the enemy; when you keep your light low, you make satanic invasion easier for the enemy. The days of being a small, lesser light are over. It’s time to rise as the light of the world that you are; it is time to arise and shine in your generation, above the darkness of the enemy.

Choose to be that greater light that rules by day; choose to be the light that shines brighter and brighter even while others around you are shining.

Declaration

I am the greater light; my light shall be outstanding, in Jesus’ name!
