Ignore the wind

Ignore The Wind

21st November 2019

Scripture Reading: Matthew 14: 22-33

Focus

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” (Matthew 14: 30)

Our Focal Scripture gives details of how Peter transited from walking on water to sinking in the same water. Peter transited from focusing on Jesus to focusing on the boisterous wind, and he began to sink. He gave more consideration than he should, to the wind, and down he went. He decided to take his environment more seriously than he took the words of Jesus, and he began to sink. What he saw made him sink.

Friend, be careful with what you see. Stop paying undue attention to the winds that want to sink your ship; stop paying undue attention to the challenges in your economy; stop paying undue attention to the circumstances that are currently unfavourable; stop paying undue attention to the gossips, slanders, conspiracies, hate, etc that people around you are manifesting towards you; stop looking at the ‘waves’.

The waves were still there when Peter began to walk on water, and he had no business focusing on what was not going to have the final say on the matter. Guess what? The storms will still be there and you will walk on water; the challenges will still be there and you will make progress; the haters and gossips will still be there and God will take you higher; the conspiracies will still be there and you will advance as God has said.

Jesus already invited Peter to come, and there was no need to keep looking at the wind. When you have heard the word of the Lord, there is no need to overrate the boisterous wind; when Jesus has spoken to you, you have no need to act like Jesus is afraid of, or limited by the ‘wind’. Focus on what God has said; focus on His promises; focus on His ability to do what He said He would do; focus on the God who is too faithful to fail.

When the chips are down, the wind will never be as important as the word of the Lord. Focus on God; focus on His word; and ignore the wind.

Declaration

I focus on the word of the Lord; the ‘wind’ has nothing on me, in Jesus’ name!
