Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when the waves tossed the ship that carried Jesus’ disciples. One basic truth about waves is that they cause the waters that should have been under the ship to rise above and threaten the ship’s movement. So essentially, something that should have been under refused to remain under, and the ship was in jeopardy. Something that ought to hide decided to reveal itself, and the ship was threatened.
Friend, hear God’s counsel: don’t allow what should be under to erupt. Don’t allow the wrong waters to arise in your life; don’t allow the wrong relationships to arise or even grow; don’t allow negative emotions that should be under lock and key to find expression; don’t allow the attitudes that have the capacity to sink your ship to arise; don’t allow whatever is not of God to arise; don’t allow your calm waters to be disrupted.
If it is meant to be under, insist that it must remain under. If it is meant to be at the back seat of your destiny, don’t allow it to come to the front. If it is meant to be a minor in your life, don’t make it a major. Don’t allow the waters that should be under your ship to start rising to compete with your ship. Don’t allow what should be under your feet to find space and get above acceptable limits and boundaries.
The ship and the water may be in close proximity, but it doesn’t mean that the water should rise high like the ship. Sometimes, you may be truly close to the very things that are capable of making a mess of your destiny; you may be in the same environment as the people, distractions, vices, etc that could sink your ship; do well to sail through the waters, but be sure to keep it under.
When the chips are down, remember that it is the water that rises higher than it should that sinks a ship. If it meant to be under, don’t let it rise; keep it under.
