Lifted Amidst Rivals

30th June 2019

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 16: 1-13

Focus

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.” (1 Samuel 16: 13)

As we close the matter of David and his anointing as King, one thing is remarkable: David was anointed in the midst of his brethren. The same people who came ahead of him were there to watch his anointing as King of Israel; the same person (Eliab) who didn’t like him and made no pretences about it was there to watch his anointing and elevation. His rivals and opposers were there as he was anointed for his throne and crown.

Friend, as the first half of 2019 comes to an end, hear God’s word of Grace to you: you will be anointed in the midst of your rivals and opposers. Those that hate you will be available to watch your rise to higher levels; those that are competing with you will be witnesses of your elevation; those who are already ahead of you will be there as you press into the place that God has cut out for you; your rivals will watch you rise.

David did not need to hide from Eliab before being anointed as King; he did not need to be scared of those who didn’t like him and those who were competing with him on the day of his elevation. Hear me again: there is no need to be scared of your haters and opposers. The much they can do is to hate or oppose, but as for your elevation, it will happen before their very eyes.

David was not a partaker of the New Covenant, and he enjoyed the blessing of being lifted in the midst of his rivals and haters. If you have embraced the finished work of Christ, then you are even more qualified than David to be anointed in the midst of your own ‘brethren’. If you have embraced Jesus, then get set: your rivals, opposers, contemporaries, haters, seniors, superiors, etc will be witnesses to your elevation.

Get set to be lifted like David; get set to be elevated in the midst of all your ‘brethren’.

Declaration

My rivals, haters, opposers, contemporaries and even superiors shall witness my rising, in Jesus’ name!
