Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 6: 1-7

“But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.” (2 Kings 6: 5)

As one of the sons of the prophets was cutting down wood, his axe head fell off, and he screamed that it was borrowed. That particular son of the prophet suddenly found himself in a vulnerable position, where he could no longer cut down wood like others did; he found himself in an awkward position where he needed to explain how he misplaced what he borrowed; he simply faced an open embarrassment.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you will not be embarrassed. You will not come to a point where your vulnerability will become public knowledge; you will not become a laughing stock amongst your contemporaries; you will not suffer public shame and disgrace; you will not face the sort of awkward situation that will make men discover what you have been trying to keep under lock and key; you won’t suffer needless embarrassment.

That son of the prophet could have done noble with that axe head, but the moment it fell into the water, his exploits were going to exist side by side with needless embarrassment. Hear me as I hear the Lord: your successes will not exist side by side with embarrassments. Your efforts will not be marred by unexpected tragedies; your breakthroughs will not be punctuated by tales of embarrassments you did not bargain for.

In the places where you are vulnerable, God will cover you; in the areas where you lack strength, God will increase your strength; in the places where your resources will not be enough to help you pull through, divine help shall come through for you; in the places where your desires and plans are faced with the absence of capacity and helpers, God will arise on your behalf.

Ask God to help you in the areas of your life where you are vulnerable. Ask God to save you from public shame and disgrace.

I shall not suffer public shame or disgrace; God will cover my vulnerability, in Jesus’ name!
