Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 4: 1-7

Focus

“Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.” (2 Kings 4: 3)

In our Focal Scripture, Elisha told the widow of one of the sons of the prophets to go and borrow vessels from her neighbours. He told her to borrow as many as she could. That woman would have got all manner of containers from her neighbours; and for every vessel, her oil kept overflowing until the vessel was filled. She kept pouring into different vessels and kept getting results. Vessels changed, but increase was constant.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: your vessels may change but your increase will be certain. You may be moved from favourable vessels to not so favourable vessels, but you will keep increasing. You may be moved from good locations to not so good locations, but your results will never be minimized. You may be moved from the best of positions to the worst of positions, but your results and influence will never be minimized.

No matter how your containers change, your results will keep coming in. It’s not about your containers; it’s not about the containers that men give you; it’s not about the positions you are given; it’s not about how the economy is; it’s not a matter of conspiracies against you; it’s not a matter of the current or future season; it’s not a matter of how good or bad your opportunities are; God says, nothing will affect your flow of oil.

The increase that the widow of the son of the prophet received began with the oil she had in her house, not the containers she got from her neighbours. Your increase is calling for the oil you have in you. Your next level is placing a demand for the capacity you carry within you. No matter what happens, preserve your oil, preserve your abilities, preserve the passion with which you fulfill your assignment, and preserve the ‘oil’ you have.

Don’t lose sleep when the ‘containers’ do not come in your preferred sizes. If God be for you, your oil will multiply regardless of the available vessels.
