Oil Of Distinction

26th July 2021

Scripture Reading: 2 King 9: 1-13

Focus

“And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:” (2 Kings 9: 1)

The son of the prophet that was mandated by Elisha to go and anoint Jehu was commanded to go with a box of oil. That trainee prophet was ordinarily not qualified for the assignment of anointing a King of Israel, but he had the oil for the assignment. Others may have been mere sons of the prophets, but he had the oil. He had what others didn’t have. He had what others were not given. He had more than others had.

Friend, hear me as I hear the Lord: you are about to receive that oil that others around you do not have. God is pouring the oil of distinction on you, and you will find yourself in that uncommon place where you are simply ahead of your contemporaries. God is baptizing you with the fresh oil of visibility. God is placing on you that oil that announces a man and announces a generation. You are becoming a carrier of divine oil.

That son of the prophets had oil, and he was able to anoint a new king to take the throne. He was able to appoint Jehu’s portion to him because he had an oil that his fellow sons of the prophets did not have. Hear me as I hear the Lord: by the oil that is coming upon your life in this season, you will usher men into their inheritance. By the oil of God on you, you will open the doors of royalty for others to step into.

One major characteristic of the oil is that it is easy to identify when it comes on a man. Jehu tried to cover the matter of his coronation as king, but the oil on his face told the story all by itself. When the oil comes upon a man, even if you do not want to announce what the Lord is doing, the oil would announce it by itself. The oil you carry will announce your ministry, career, business, family, etc. to your generation.

Ask the Lord to put on you that oil that makes a man stand out from the crowd. Ask the Lord to anoint you for your higher level.
