Set The Goals

4th November 2019

Scripture Reading: Matthew 14: 22-33

Focus

“And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.” (Matthew 14: 22)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when Jesus constrained His disciples to get into a ship and go to the other side. He set the goal of going to the other side for His disciples, and consequently, He sent the multitudes away. The moment there was a goal to go to the other side, the multitudes had no option but to leave. There was a focus on a fresh goal, actions were taken to realize that goal, and the multitudes left.

Friend, are you currently battling with distractions in the face of goals and targets that need to be accomplished? Just define your goals, keep your eyes on them, take actions that will aid you to realize them, and the multitude of distractions will give way. Start working on your priorities and the frivolities will lose steam; start working on the things that matter to you, and the things that really don’t matter will be shut out of your space.

Jesus got His disciples to enter the ship before He sent the multitudes away. The movement towards their goal preceded the elimination of their distractions. Stop battling with your distractions; just pay more attention to your goals and your distractions will give way; just devote more time to work your career, business, marriage, family, academics, vocation, profitable relationships, etc and the things that don’t matter will fizzle out.

Typically, a pregnant woman should not fight at the market place. A man with a vision and a goal to fulfill and achieve should not spend his moments on distractions that will eat his productive time. A man with major assignments should not be entangled with men who do not have assignments to fulfill or deliver on. A man with huge assignments and major movements to make should not live like one who is going nowhere.

Devote more time to the things that matter in your life, and the things that don’t matter will give way. Focus on your goals and your distractions will be distracted.
