Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 18: 40-46

Focus

“And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” (1 Kings 18: 46)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of how the hand of the Lord was upon Elijah, and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab into Jezreel. Elijah girded up his loins before the extraordinary feat of overtaking Ahab who rode on a chariot. To gird up one’s loins is to tuck in the flowing dress/tunic which was worn in bible times. The idea was to make sure the dress did not limit the speed of the wearer of the dress. So Elijah wanted to embark on a journey of speed, and he removed his speed limits.

Friend, if you intend to go far and move with speed in life, then it is high time you removed whatsoever has the capacity to limit or reduce your speed. Do away with habits and attitudes that will slow you down in your journey through life; do away with the distractions that attract you away from your assignment; do away with the relationships that hinder you from achieving your goals promptly and speedily; tuck in that flowing tunic that will slow you down on the way to greatness.

Elijah did not need to discard his garment entirely; he only needed to put it in a position where it will not limit his movement. Glean the wisdom of putting your ‘garment’ in a position where it won’t limit you; tuck in your habits and attitudes so that it doesn’t limit you; even when God has blessed you with the good things of life, put them where they belong before they become hindrances to your next level.

Take a closer look at your life. What are the things that have not allowed you to move as fast as you should? What are the habits that are slowing you down? What are the involvements and engagements that are making it impossible for you to achieve all that you truly need to achieve? Now is the time to get things right; now is the time to tuck in those garments; now is the time to minimize the comfort that steals your speed.

Remember, you can choose to wear your garment and get drenched, or tuck it in and enjoy divine speed.

Declaration

I tuck in my ‘garments’; I move with divine speed, in Jesus’ name!
