WALK IN OBEDIENCE

30th May 2023

Scripture Reading: 1 KINGS 17: 1-16

Focus

“And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.” (1 Kings 17: 15)

In our Focal Scripture, the widow of Zarephath went and acted in line with the word of the Lord that came through Elijah, and she enjoyed the result of having food to eat through the entire period of famine in Israel. She received the word of the Lord, she acted in obedience to the word of the Lord, and she received results that others in Israel did not receive. Her obedience to the word of the Lord positioned her on a higher level.

Friend, it may be exciting to hear the word of the Lord, but your results will only come as you walk in obedience to the word of the Lord. Walk in obedience to the word that God has spoken to you. Walk in obedience to the statutes in scripture. Act in line with your prophecies. Walk in line with the promises of God. Let your thoughts and actions be in alignment with the word of the Lord concerning your life.

The widow of Zarephath did not just experience the fulfillment of the word of the Lord in isolation; she acted in line with her prophecy and that was when fulfillment happened to her. The fulfillment of the word of the Lord may elude you if you fail to act in line with the word you heard. You may not get all that you are looking for if you do not take steps that align with what God is saying to you.

Notice carefully that the widow of Zarephath was yet to see the fulfillment of the word of the Lord when she began to act in line with that word. She walked in obedience first before she got the result of acting in obedience to the word of the Lord. Don’t wait to see if the word of the Lord will work in your favour before you start to walk in obedience to it. Let your first response to the word of the Lord you read or hear, be obedience.

Remember, obedience to the word of the Lord led to the fulfillment of the word of the Lord. As you walk in obedience to the word of the Lord, you will enjoy the blessing of the fulfillment of God’s word.
