Beyond The Gifts

7th June 2020

Scripture Reading: Luke 8: 43-48

Focus

“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” (Luke 8: 48)

When the woman with the issue of blood was first mentioned in our Scripture Reading, she was called a ‘woman’; but when Jesus healed her, He called her daughter. The word ‘daughter’ signifies a relationship. So after giving her a miracle, Jesus’ priority was relationship. She may have been interested in what Jesus did for her, but Jesus wanted a relationship; Jesus wanted intimacy; Jesus’ pressing need was to make her a daughter.

Friend, no matter what you have received or wish to receive from the Lord, always remember that Jesus’ priority is to have a relationship with you. Jesus’ main goal is to have you closer than you have ever been; Jesus’ priority is to make you more of His own than you have ever been; Jesus’ priority is to pour Himself into you; Jesus wants you completely, not partially; Jesus wants you full time, not on part time basis.

What God does for you must never become more important than who He is to you; what you desire to receive from God must never supersede who you are becoming in Him; your miracles and testimonies are very important for your daily living, but your life in Christ is much more important than everything else; what you have received or wish to receive from God is a major priority, but your walk with God is a higher priority.

Notice that the word ‘daughter’ implies that there would have been a father. Fathers (parents) usually take responsibility for their children. So, when Jesus called her daughter, He was simply getting set to take responsibility for her destiny. Did you know that your intimacy with God pushes Him to take responsibility for you? Did you know that when you get closer to God, you enlist Him to take charge of your destiny?

Don’t let what you hope to get from the hand of God take your eyes away from His face. Don’t allow the gifts distract you from the Giver Himself.

Declaration

Jesus is my priority; no gifts will distract me from the Giver, in Jesus’ name!
