Walk By Covenant

16th November 2020

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 17: 1-53

Focus

“Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.” (1 Samuel 17: 36)

When David showed up in the battle field, he described Goliath as an uncircumcised Philistine. David simply inferred that he was circumcised while Goliath was not circumcised. Circumcision was a token of God’s covenant with Abraham (see Genesis 17 vs. 13). So, David whilst calling Goliath an uncircumcised Philistine, inferred that Goliath lacked a covenant with God and cannot defeat God’s people.

Friend, if you have embraced Jesus, then you belong to that generation that has a covenant with God and cannot be defeated by the Goliaths of this world. If you have a covenant with God, the wickedness of this world will not prevail over you. By reason of your covenant with God, the powers of darkness will not prevail over you. By reason of your covenant with God, doors that did not open to others will open to you.

The covenant that God raised with Abraham was not for Abraham alone to enjoy. It was a covenant that would later be inherited by generations unborn. It was a covenant that was to pave the way for unborn generations. If indeed you have a covenant with God, that covenant relationship will pay off in the lives of your children and unborn generations. Your walk with God will yield benefits for your family long after you are gone.

In this season, take your covenant with God more seriously than you have ever done. Take your alone moments with God seriously. Take your time of prayer seriously. Take your study of God’s word seriously. Take whatever kingdom assignments that have been assigned to you seriously. Take your ministry activities seriously. Take your walk with God seriously. Take the place of your covenant with God seriously.

David prevailed over Goliath by reason of his covenant with God. By reason of your covenant relationship with God, you will prevail.

Declaration

By my covenant with God, I prevail over my ‘Goliath’, in Jesus’ name!
